I Make All Things New
Lyrics:Behold, I make all things new again.
Behold, I make all things new. Every tear is wiped away. (I make all things new.) No more death or mourning or pain. (I make all things new.) Heaven and earth shall pass away (I make all things new.) The bridegroom awaits. |
Behind the Song:One of my favorite books of the Bible is the book of Revelation. There's just something about the imagery and the beautiful way that this book of the Bible is written that I really love.
One of my favorite verses from Revelation (though I do have many favorite Revelation verses) is the one that this song is based on. I had been thinking about writing a song based on one of my favorite verses in Revelation for a while, but I was having trouble deciding which verses I should use. Then, one week in April 2013, I was picking music for Mass at Hofstra (where I went to college and where I was the music minister). I always read through the readings for the Mass before picking the music so that I can try to pick songs that appropriately match what the readings are saying. This particular week, the second reading was Revelation 21:1-5, which happened to be one of my favorite passages from Revelation. I figured now was as good a time as any to write that song I was planning on writing, so I sat down at the piano with this reading and wrote this simple song. I was able to write it in about 20 minutes, which I took as a sign from the big guy upstairs that it was no coincidence that the Revelation verse I loved so much was the reading that week! |
